Dora D. Granger, 72, of Lake Charles, died Saturday, April 25, 2009 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Granger was born and raised in the Mamou area and has lived over 50 years in Lake Charles. She worked as a substitute teacher and a sales representative for local department stores. During her later years, she worked as a Special Ed Teacher's Aide. She also spent countless hours visiting the elderly in area nursing homes as she loved giving special gifts and attention to Special Ed children and the elderly. Mrs. Granger was a former member of St. Theodore Catholic Church and Altar Society and St. Margaret Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family, gardening and her dog, Zoey. She was a "people person whom made friends everywhere".
Mrs. Granger will be most remembered for her love and devotion to her family. She was a loving wife, great mother and homemaker. She especially loved spoiling her grandchildren.
She leaves to honor her memory, her husband of 55 years, Louis B. Granger of Lake Charles; two sons, Mitch Granger and wife Charlotte of Moss Bluff and Patrick "Neal" Granger and wife Kim of Carlyss; two daughters, Merinda Joan Vidrine and husband Gary of Lake Charles and Connie LaFleur and husband Keith of Lake Charles; six grandchildren, Lauren and Courtney Granger, Jacob Granger and wife Cheyenne, Caleb Granger, and Sara and Joshua Vidrine and one sister, Leola Granger and husband Alvin of Lake Charles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Aldis and Enice Granger.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, April 27, 2009 in St. Margaret Catholic Church. Father Bill Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation Sunday will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue Monday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM.
