Dora Jean "Dori" Scalisi Rogers

Dora Jean “Dori” Scalisi Rogers, 72, of Lake Charles passed away at 11:40 AM on Sunday, October 21, 2018 in her residence.

Mrs. Rogers was born on October 8, 1946 in Lake Charles where she was a graduate of Lake Charles High School and was a Kiltie. She then attended USL before enrolling at McNeese State University obtaining her Master’s Degree in Education. She later continued her education at McNeese receiving her plus 30 hours. Mrs. Rogers began her career teaching kindergarten at Western Heights Elementary School for 22 years before moving to their Spark program. She retired from RW Vincent Elementary School teaching the Spark program. Mrs. Rogers was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for many years before attending St. Margaret Catholic Church.

She loved all children and enjoyed taking care of her nieces and nephews. She passionately adored her grandchildren and the time spent with them. Mrs. Rogers will be remembered for her generous, giving heart, her drive to always help others and also for her outstanding cooking skills.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 44 years, James Rogers of Lake Charles; daughters, Julie Rogers Ordoyne (Nicholas) of Lake Charles and Jill Viator of Sulphur; son, Shannon Christopher Rogers (Charlotte) of Rayne; sisters, JoAnn VanGossen and Barbara McCombs both of Lake Charles; five grandchildren, Joseph Russell, Cheyenne Rogers, Paul Ordoyne, Marisa Viator, and Jackson Viator; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Joseph Scalisi.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 25, 2018 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Anthony Pousson will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 11:00 AM and continue until the rosary begins at 1:30 PM. Inurnment will follow at Consolata Cemetery.
