Doris E. Young Breland, 74, of Lake Charles passed away peacefully at 10:10 AM on July 19, 2010 in a local hospital.
Doris was born on September 15, 1935 in Leakesville, Mississippi. She was an honor graduate of Leakesville High School. After graduation she pursued her love for the piano studying music at the University of Southern Mississippi. She was an avid Old Miss Rebel fan. Doris moved to Lake Charles in 1969, where she worked in the banking field until 1974. She then entered the construction industry until retirement. She was employed by Furlow Laughlin, Tri J Construction, and Davies Construction. Doris was a Charter member of the Lake Charles Chapter of Women in Construction and served as President for several terms. She was also a charter member of the Memorial Hospital Service District Board.
She is survived by one her son Robert Young of Lake Charles, step daughter Lil Tillman and family and step son Brian Breland and family of Mobile, Alabama, brothers Eugene Elmore and wife Inez of Huntsville, Alabama, Dr. Gary Elmore and wife Golda of Mobile, Alabama, several nieces and nephews, and many loving friends.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Myrtle Elmore and her husbands Bob Young and Bob Breland.
The family would like to thank Dr. Nisar and his staff and also the staff at Christus St. Patrick Hospital for all of their kind care and compassion.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in memory of Doris to the Charity of ones choice.
