Doris Elaine Tennyson Sohrwide, 93, of Lake Charles, LA, died on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Sohrwide was born October 20, 1927 in Alexandria, LA, where she graduated from Providence Academy.  She worked at Mueller’s for a short period and Union National Life Insurance Company with her husband, but her true passion was taking care of her family.  She also volunteered at Camp Claiborne during World War II and later for the Calcasieu Council on Aging.  Mrs. Sohrwide was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, where she taught Catechism for several years.  During her younger years, she was active with Barbe Elementary PTA.  She enjoyed sewing and made many of her family’s clothes throughout the years.  She also enjoyed cooking and having family gatherings.

Mrs. Sohrwide is survived by her daughters, Dianna Guillory of Lake Charles, Carolyn Vanatta and husband Merritt “Dude” of DeRidder, LA, Cynthia Slaydon and husband Dane of Pitkin, LA, and Regina Brock of Oklahoma City, OK; sister-in-law, Beverly Constance of Alexandria, LA; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her fur babies, Quick, Bunny, and Sam.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Michael Sohrwide; son, Richard Michael Sohrwide, II; sons-in-law, David Guillory, and Keith Brock; parents, Alexander and Emma Tennyson; and an infant brother.

Her funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 11, 2021 at University Baptist Church.  Deacon Anthony Pousson will officiate.  Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 AM until the start of the service, with a rosary at 12:00 PM.
