Doris Evelyn Barnhill Dowden, 81, of Ragley Louisiana passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016 in the comfort of her home.
Mrs. Dowden was born and raised in Robeline, LA and was a graduate of Marion High School. She lived nearly forty years in Lytle, Texas. She worked many years as the Office Manager for Lytle Feed & Seed. Mrs. Dowden was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Ruth Chapter #16 and Magnolia Chapter # 242. She served as the Worthy Matron of Lytle Chapter from 2000 – 2001 and Worthy Matron of Ruth Chapter #16 for 2014. She also served in several offices in her Chapters throughout the years. Mrs. Dowden was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a lifelong member of the Mormon Church. Her greatest times were spent traveling and camping, by RV, and spending time with family and friends. Mrs. Dowden enjoyed bowling and was an avid Pro basketball fan. She will be most remembered for her love and devotion to her family.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Heart of Hospice for the care, concern and prayers they gave Doris during her illness. Thank you so very much.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of sixty-one years, Sammy Lane Dowden of Ragley; one son, Danny Lane Dowden and wife Jacqueline of Ragley; two grandchildren, Shawn Dowden and wife Stacy of Lake Charles and Christina Domingue and husband Daniel of Gillis; three great-grandchildren, Eian Tyler Dowden, Kadynce Anyalee Dowden, Nolan James Domingue, and Kathryn Marie Domingue; one brother, Jerry B. Barnhill of Lytle, TX; one sister, Beverly Ruth Welker of Farmington, IL and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Cloda Veuleman Barnhill; and two sisters, Tommie Dell Childs and Mittie Yvonne Oberdorf.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5 PM until 8 PM, and Monday from 8AM until 10AM. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 02, 2016, at 10 AM in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Bishop Robert A. Stott will officiate, and will include the Order of the Eastern Star memorial service. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Monday in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Cedar Grove, LA.
