Doris Fay Kay Rowland

Doris Fay Kay Rowland, 93, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 4:06 AM on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at a local hospital.

Mrs. Rowland was born August 6, 1923 in Leesville, LA and was a 1941 graduate of Leesville High School. She worked for South Central Bell for thirty-one years and retired as an assignment clerk in 1982. She was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Mrs. Rowland enjoyed gardening and was known for her green thumb. She also enjoyed sewing and traveling and spending time with “The Friendship Club”. She was also a past member of the Telephone Pioneers. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and her grandchildren.

Mrs. Rowland is survived by her daughter, Brenda LaBove and husband Rickey of Moss Bluff; step-daughter, Pat Granger and husband Paul of Lake Charles; brother, Don Kay of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren, Brandon Kent Brignac and Derek Joseph Miller and wife Stacey; eleven step-grandchildren; great-grandchild, Kegan Reese Miller; eighteen step great-grandchildren; and five step great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifteen years, Almer Rowland; son, Dennis Wayne McDaniel; step-sons, Almer Glen Rowland, Jr. and James Rowland; first husband and father of her children, Curtis McDaniel; brothers, Horace Kay, Hollis Kay, and Norris “Man” Kay; and sister, Floy T. Tibbitts.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Doctor Michael Shamblin will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
