Doris Marie Green Reeves, 78, of Lake Charles passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, October 6, 2018 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was surrounded by her family.
Doris was born on October 16, 1939 in Vincennes, IN to Hubert and Daisy Spencer Green. She spent her early childhood living in Tyler, TX and then moved to Tupelo, MS, her mother’s home town when her dad died when she was four years old. Later she and her mom moved to Crowley, LA where her mom married Johnnie Porter (Pop) who became an important mentor to Doris and her children. She graduated from Crowley High School and then moved to Lake Charles after marriage to Fred Reeves. During marriage her children became the focus of her life and she built her life around giving them a good upbringing. Family vacation times were always very special. Later it became the grandchildren who received the attention.
Travel was always something that she loved and she was blessed to have visited many interesting places during her lifetime. Another interest was she and Fred’s vacation home in Hot Springs, AR where they had many friends and plenty of shopping opportunities which she truly enjoyed. Most of all she enjoyed having family visit in Arkansas. Doris was a long time member of First Christian Church and she cherished the time spent there as a part of the church family.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 60 years, Fred Reeves; her children, Debra Kay Michel (Don) and F. Scott Reeves; special daughter in law, Kimberly Lambert Reeves; and grandchildren, Jordan Scott Michel (Donnice), Emily Michel Jacoy (Drew), Eva Sonnier Brown (Chris), Hunter Sonnier (Brandi), Tricia Reeves Duhon (Blaine), and Austin Reeves. She is also survived by fifteen great grandchildren: sister in law, Glenda Reeves Bolton (Jim); and Clay, her ever-loving schnauzer.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Denise Reeves and her mother, father, and step father.
A special thank you to Harbor Hospice for their support during this trying time. Also a thank you to her faithful caregivers Nella, Jean, and Peggy as well as to the Verandah for all of the support provided by both the staff and residents that will forever be remembered.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, October 8, 2018 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Vince Endris and Chaplain Willie Bellard will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will begin on Monday from 9:30 AM until the start of the service.
