Dorothy Blalock Frederick, 84, of Lake Charles died at 6:52 PM Wednesday, February 15, 2011 at her residence.
Mrs. Frederick was a native of Lake Charles and graduated from St. Charles Academy and McNeese State University. Mrs. Frederick moved to Houston where she attended Baylor University School of Nursing. In Houston she worked for a Dermatologist, Internist, and Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist in the Herman Professional Building near the Medical Center. Wanting to be closer to home and school, Mrs. Frederick moved to the suburbs of Houston where she applied her nursing skills with an obstetrician and gynecologist for ten years. While in Houston Mrs. Frederick was a member of Westbury Baptist Church and the Delphian Society. Upon her return to Lake Charles, Mrs. Frederick went to work at the Goldsmith Clinic for seven years and later for four years for Dr. G. W. Tucker, an obstetrician and gynecologist. Mrs. Frederick was a member of the Calcasieu Parish Medical Alliance and served as secretary for the Calcasieu Parish Medical Alliance Auxiliary. She also was a corresponding secretary for the Louisiana State Medical Society. Along with Dr. Gordon Holcomb, Mrs. Frederick prepared a history of early Lake Charles physicians. Mrs. Frederick was a pioneer in the Organ Donor Program helping to establish the first Organ Procurement Program in Calcasieu Parish. Always active in the community Mrs. Frederick was a member of the Ballet Society, the Lake Charles Symphony, the Imperial Calcasieu Museum, the Pioneer Club and a member of the Board of the Calcasieu Community Clinic. Mrs. Frederick was a long-time, active member of the First Baptist Church and was the coordinator of the Church Pictorial Directory for a number of years.
Her husband, Dr. C. O. Frederick, co-founder of what is now the Urology Clinic and a daughter, Deborah Sue McReynolds, her father and mother William Henry Blalock and Bessie Beulah Blalock, six brother and three sisters preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son James Banyon McReynolds
Her funeral will be at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 19, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Randy Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and continue Sunday from 1:00 PM until the time of services.
