Dorothy (Debi) Buras White, 84, died on Sunday January 27, 2013 in a local hospital following a brief illness. The body was cremated.
Debi was born and reared in New Orleans. She received her education in Biology, Chemistry, Theater and Art at Sophie Newcomb College, Tulane University, and LSU, where she met and married her husband of 64 years, Dr. George V.S. White. She also attended McNeese State University.
Debi was always interested and involved in many facets of the arts. She worked closely with Lady Leah Lafargue in the establishment of the Lady Leah Lafargue School of the Dance. She was co-founder and artistic Director of the Lake Charles Civic Ballet where she was the chief costume and set designer. She went to Banff University in Canada for advanced technique in both of her skills.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. George V.S. White, a daughter, Michelle Dian Cummings of Churchville, MD, and sons, Van S. White of Novato, CA, and Michael J. White of Lake Charles, LA, two granddaughters and a grandson.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
