Dorothy Colletta House-Jones

January 27, 1942 — March 5, 2021

Dorothy Colletta House-Jones, 79, of Lake Charles passed away following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  Mrs. Jones was a native of Opelousas and lived most of her life in Lake Charles.  She was a graduate of LaGrange High School and McNeese State University where she attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Master of English degree.  She began her teaching career at Iowa High School and fulfilled her career of thirty years with nearly twenty years at A.M. Barbe High School.  She was a member of the National Educator’s Association and participated in the Governor’s program at McNeese during the summer.  “Mrs. House” was well respected by her fellow teachers and her students.  She loved being at Barbe and where she taught English and typing, was Bluebelle sponsor for a short while and often traveled the summer tour through Europe with teachers and students.  Mrs. House-Jones was an avid traveler, having traveled countless road trips throughout the United States, as well as international travels to Australia, China, Italy, all of Europe, the Caribbean and her latest travel, an Alaskan cruise with her daughter.  She also enjoyed annual snow-skiing trips and periodic visits to Disney World.  Having excelled as a tap dancer during her younger years, she came to love dancing and was really very good.  Later in life she was tapping again, as a selected member of a ladies group led by Ann Monlezun.  She greatly enjoyed the many hours and months of practice with her team.  Mrs. House-Jones for quite some time was active at the Roman Health Spa, taking step and water aerobics and helped others to share her interest in a healthy life>

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Allen Rayford Jones of Lake Charles; son, John Wesley House, IV, D.C. (Hildreth) of Winter Springs, FL; daughter, Michelle House Cassisa of Baton Rouge; three grandchildren, Michael Cassisa of Baton Rouge and David House and Wyatt House of Winter Springs, FL; two step-children, Steve Jones (Cammie) of Baton Rouge and Pat Jones of Austin, TX; four step-grandchildren, Christopher Laizure of Houston, TX, Freeman Jones and Garrett Jones of Thibodeaux and Brennan Jones of Baton Rouge and dear friends, Sister Mary Fontenot and Collett Manuel, both of Lake Charles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley House, III; parents, Oscar and Vida DeCarlo Colletta and a brother, Frank Colletta.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 3:30 PM Monday, March 15, 2021 at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Monsignor Harry Greig will officiate.  Visitation Monday will be from 2:00 PM until the time of service in the church.  Graveside interment services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Consolata Cemetery.
