Dorothy Cook

July 12, 1927 — May 14, 2017

Dorothy Barnes Lacy Cook, 89, of Lake Charles, passed away peacefully Sunday May 14, 2017 in a local hospital.

 

Dorothy was a native and life-long resident of Lake Charles, having graduated from St. Charles Academy in 1944. She had a true passion for the art of dancing, having been a member of the New York City Rockettes. Later, she was an instructor/performer at the Sue Ferrier School of Dance and Dorothy Barnes School of Dance in Sulphur. After her retirement from Calcasieu Marine Bank, she enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, being a member of the Serra Club and serving as Extraordinary Eucharist Minister at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and Villa Marie Retirement Community. Dorothy will be best remembered for the beautiful hats she wore.

 

Preceding Dorothy in death are her parents, Aubrey and Marcine Rider Barnes, her beloved husband of nine years, E. Leon Cook. Those left to mourn her loss are her sons, Stephen Lacy (Gayle), Lake Charles; Robert T. Lacy, Jr. (Janet), Portland, TX; daughter, Virginia M. Lacy (Duane W. Brown), Brazoria, TX; good friend, Don Chavanne; cousins, Carolyn Durio Gauthreaux and Mike Durio (Sue), Lake Charles; grandchildren, Kevin Lacy (Jessica), Kerry L. Hale (Blake), Robert Lacy III, Jaclyn Hutchins (Danny); and four great grandchildren.

 

Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday May 17, 2017 with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 11:00 AM until 1:15 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be observed on Thursday May 18, 2017 at 1:30 PM at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church with Monsignor Jace Eskind serving as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Gardens.

 

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and management of Villa Maria Retirement Center and to Dr. Richard Gilmore and the nurses and staff of the fourth floor at Christus St. Patrick Hospital for their kind and compassionate care expressed toward our beloved mother and grandmother.

 

In lieu of floral tributes, the family requests memorial donations be made to the restoration funds for the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception or the Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.
