Dorothy Ellen Debrun Corrigan

October 30, 1947 — October 29, 2021

Dorothy Ellen DeBrun Corrigan, 73, of Moss Bluff passed away at 3:19 PM on Friday, October 29, 2021 in a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 in Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff.  Father Brian King will officiate.  Burial will be held in Pana, IL at a later date.  Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM and continue until the start of the service.

Dorothy was born in Pana, IL in 1947.  She grew up in many different places as her father was a career Army man.  She often commented on what a wonderful life it was meeting new people and seeing new places.  It affected her later in life as a wanderlust for the new and unusual.  Her favorite place being Ireland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Corrigan; her parents, Danny and Sally DeBrun; three infant brothers, Danny, James, and John; and many aunts and uncles.

Dorothy devoted her life to surgical technology, working first as a staff tech, then a surgical technology instructor and program director, the Director of Professional Development for the Association of Surgical Technology, and finally as Director of Surgery.  She was very active in both the Association of Surgical Technology, as a member and national president, and the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, as a certified surgical technologist, national board member, and interim CEO.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Heather Hoffman (Tom), Michael Corrigan (Jamie), and Nicholas Corrigan (Diana); and five grandchildren, Anthony, Danny, Kenzie, Addison, and Micah Corrigan.   Other survivors include her brother, Thomas DeBrun (Nancy); four nieces and nephews; and several grand nieces and nephews.  In addition, Dorothy is survived by many lifelong friends.

“The service we render to others is really the rent we pay for our room on this earth.  It is obvious that man is himself a traveler; that the purpose of this world is not to have and hold but to give and serve.”  Sir Wilfred Grenfell.  My highest calling is to serve.
