Dorothy Ferne Cummings

Dorothy Ferne Cummings was born September 7, 1927 in Englewood, Colorado, She was 94 years old and peacefully fell asleep in death at home with her children by her side on October 19, 2021.  

She grew up with her parents and five older sisters on a homestead in eastern Colorado. After graduating high school she moved to Colorado Springs and married Eugene Victor Cummings. They raised four children: Donnette, Jim, Joyce and John.

As a young mother, she studied the Bible and learned about Jehovah God and His loving son Jesus Christ. Thereafter she made her dedication to serve God and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1954.  She lived her life faithfully until her death. 

She worked for 20 years for the telephone company and lived in the San Diego area where she gained many, many true friends. Since 2019 she lived in Sulphur Louisiana where she also came to know and love many friends. She always enjoyed and remembered memorable quotations from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, often repeating them verbatim throughout her life. Among her joys and talents were, dancing, piano playing, joking, playing a variety of games, road trips, working puzzles and enjoying laughing and visiting with friends and family. But her greatest joy was sharing Bible truth with others.

She is survived by her daughter Donnette Murphy in Sulphur, Louisiana and by her son John Cummings and his wife Linda in Madras, Oregon. Grandchildren are Valerie Thibodeaux and her husband Kenneth, and Ryan Murphy.  There are five great grandchildren , five great-great-grandchildren children and many nephews and nieces. 

She is preceded in death by her daughter Joyce, her grandson Jessie and her son Jim as well as her parents and five sisters.

Honoring Dorothy’s wishes, all services will be private.
