Dorothy Marie Thornton Reeves, 89 of Lake Charles passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015 in a local healthcare facility.
Mrs. Reeves was born and educated in Oil City, LA and lived all of her adult life in Lake Charles. During her younger years she was a proud Mom, following and supporting her children to countless sporting events, dance and twirl practices and competitions. After her children married, she worked fifteen years in the coffee shop of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. She then began working with her daughter as the van driver and everyone's favorite dance grandmother at Dance Arts Studio. During her later years she enjoyed working for CCOA delivering Meals on Wheels to the Westlake area. She attended Parkview Baptist Church. Mrs. Reeves adored her grandchildren and will be most remembered as a loving grandmother.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Glenda Reeves Menard and husband Herman; one son, Robert "Bobby" Reeves; one daughter-in-law, Sheryl Reeves, all of Lake Charles; one grandson, Michael B. Menard and wife Joleen of Lafayette; four great-grandchildren, Traci Reeves of Lake Charles, Tiffani Reeves of Bell City and Emma Menard and Ella Menard of Lafayette and two great-great-grandchildren, Stacie Reber and Lane H. Helms of Lake Charles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Royce Reeves; her parents; three brothers; four sisters and a granddaughter, Stacie Lynn Reeves.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Randall Chesson and Reverend E.J. McCann will officiate. Interment will follow in Ritchie Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday will be from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home.
Pallbearers for her services will be Norman Bradley, David Reeves, Gilbert Reeves, Michael Menard, Allen McCall, Mike Thornton, Pete Thornton and Matthew Mitchell "T-Black".
The family of Mrs. Reeves wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Rosewood Nursing Center, Harbor Hospice, Dorothy Snead McCall, Deborah Stone Elter, Barbara Culpepper Dowies, Roxanne Baggett and Alyson Fewell Meche for their excellence in care and compassion throughout their journey.
