Douglas G. Donaldson, Sr.

Douglas G. Donaldson, Sr. of Bastrop, TX passed away Monday, October 1, 2012 in a hospital in Austin, TX.

Mr. Donaldson was born and raised in Statesborough, GA and lived most of his adult life in the Lake Charles area. He was a graduate of High School and attained an Engineering degree. He served the United States Navy during WWII. Mr. Donaldson retired with Universal Engineering after many years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman, as he loved fishing, boating and traveling. He, along with his wife, had an especially memorable adventure aboard a forty-seven foot craft, he captained from Prescott, WI down the Mississippi home to Lake Charles. Mr. Donaldson was a member of the Power Squadron and an Elder of First Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Donaldson will be most remembered for his wisdom and quick witt.

He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Dorothy Bell Donaldson of Bastrop, TX; two sons, Douglas Graham Donaldson, Jr. of Lake Charles and Gregory Carlisle Donaldson and wife JaDene of Bastrop, TX; seven grandchildren, Douglas G. Donaldson, III of Lake Charles, Emily Donaldson of Metairie, Rock A. Donaldson, of Lafayette, Marlon Donaldson of Lake Charles, Olivia Donaldson of Redman, WA, Jason Donaldson of Uhland, TX and Douglas G. Donaldson of Austin, TX; six great-grandchildren and many, many dear friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Z. and Ruth Parrish Donaldson and one brother, Charles Z. Donaldson, Jr.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 7, 2012 in First Presbyterian Church of Lake Charles under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Chandler Willis will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Saturday will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue Sunday will be from 8:00 AM until 1:30 PM in the funeral home.
