Douglas Joseph LeBert, 84, of Lake Charles died at 4:22 PM on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 in a local care facility. Mr. LeBert was born on September 26, 1929 in Ged, LA and resided in Lake Charles all of his life. He was retired from the U.S. Army National Guard, 3rd Battalion, and 156th Infantry as a mechanic. Mr. LeBert began his working career with Royer Mobile Homes and Abear Mobile Homes as a mover, repairman, and also performed service calls. He then became the service manager for a number of local automobile dealerships before being employed by Pepsi as a service representative. He was a collector of eagle figures and also enjoyed watching TV western shows. Mr. LeBert loved camping with his family, especially in Little Chenier. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 20 years, Melba L. Glass LeBert of Lake Charles; two daughters, Peggy LeBert Kern of Baltimore, MD and Erica Ferriss and husband Danny of Sulphur; two step children, Garry Glass and wife Anna of Sulphur and Sherry G. Dartez of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, Joseph Kern, MD and Paul Kern, Brandi Esthay, and Daniel Ferriss; six step grandchildren, Shawn, Jennifer, Jaime, Stephanie, Stewart, and Maggie; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ozite and Fred LeBert; a brother, Deacon Dudley LeBert; and a nephew, Robert "Bob" LeBert. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 28, 2013 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Monsignor Charles Dubois will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Friday from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
