Douglas Lafette Blackmon

Douglas Lafette Blackmon, 72, of Sulphur, LA left his earthly body Saturday, February 7, 2015 in a local hospital. Douglas was born on November 3, 1942 in DeRidder, LA to Irvin and Anabel Blackmon. Douglas was raised in Merryville, LA and was a lifelong resident of Sulphur, LA. Douglas graduated from Merryville High School where he was active in FBLA, FFA ,Class Secretary, and All-District, All-State Football Tackle. Doug attended McNeese State University and Northwestern University. He was in the Army for four years. He then went on to retire from Sears, and retired from being owner and operator for Acme Truckline. Douglas was a member of Victory Baptist Church for many years. He loved history, reading, and being with his family. He was a man of character and humor and loved putting a smile on everyones face. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Mary Elizabeth Blackmon; six children, Michael and wife Denise Tabor, Melissa and husband Paul Bader, Mark and wife Jody Blackmon, Melinda and husband Glenn Guidry, Blaine and wife Jill Landos, and Glen and wife Melinda Landos; sixteen grandchildren, Kristina and Garrett Daigle, Jonathan Spivey, Rachel, Matthew, Hanah and Nathan Tabor, Paige Blackmon, Joshua and Courtlyn Taylor, Monica Guillory, Amber, Landon, Noah Chloe and Aiden Lanclos, adopted granddaughter, Haley Breaux; four great grandchildren, Kyce, Brodee, and Emrye Daigle and Brydon Fillion; niece, Sara and Kevin Rodgers, Candice Rodgers, Robert and Jessie Rodgers; and father-in-law Woodrow Chatagnier. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Everline Dickerson, mother-in-law, Merle Chatagnier; one grandson, Eric Spivey; and a great nephew, Christopher Rodgers. Services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Victory Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM Monday, February 9, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Victory Baptist Church. Burial will be at Lacassine Cemetery. Rev. Wayne Dartez will officiate services.
