Douglas Leonard Hebert, Sr.

Douglas Leonard Hebert, Sr., 94, of Lake Charles, LA died at 1:58 PM on Saturday, February 16, 2013 in a local hospital.


Mr. Hebert was born January 3, 1919 in Bell City, LA and was raised in Grand Lake, where he attended Grand Lake High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and has lived in Lake Charles since 1947. He was the longtime owner and operator of Hebert Auto Repair and Hebert Auto Sales. He was a 32 Degree and Scottish Rite Mason. Mr. Hebert was a member of the AARP, where he served as Chairman of the Louisiana AARP Legislative Committee and participated in the National AARP Legislative activities. He was a very active member of First Christian Church and most recently a member of St. Luke-Simpson United Methodist Church. Mr. Hebert was a founder of the Goldenaires band and an avid musician, who loved playing the guitar and entertaining. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.


Mr. Hebert is survived by his wife, Norma Hebert; children, Melba Yantis and husband Cecil of Lake Charles, Douglas L. Hebert, Jr. and wife Terry of Kinder, LA, George Hebert and wife Ann of Mandeville, LA, and Monica Hebert of Lake Charles; son-in-law, Bill Abraham of Florida; siblings, Harley Hebert, Francis Harville, and Wallace Ray Hebert, all of Lake Charles, and Nick Hebert of Seattle, WA; fifteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his first wife of fifty-four years and mother of his children, Rosalie Hebert; second wife, Mary Kordish Hebert; third wife, Louise Graef Hebert; daughter, Ruth Abrahams; grandchild, Mark Yantis; two brothers; and two sisters.


His funeral service and Masonic Rites will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Karl Klaus will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
