Dr. John Thomas Longsworth Jr., 89, passed on to Heaven on August 28, 2016, at home surrounded by family and friends.
Dr. Longsworth started his evangelical career as a pastor at the young age of just 16. He ended up becoming the pastor at multiple churches around the nation. Dr. Longsworth was a theologian with a voracious appetite for knowledge. He valued education so much that he founded Cornerstone University. He was also the founder and CEO of Inter-Faith Fellowship, and a member of the National Christian Counselors Association. He obtained several PHD’s and became a Licensed Christian Counselor. Dr. Longsworth worked many years providing free college training to the prisoners at Allen Parish Correctional Center.
Left behind to cherish his memory are is daughter, Debra Kay Longsworth; nieces, Kathy and Ginger; and nephews, Derrick, Dwaine, Paul Jr., “Bug”, “Lanny”, and Gary. He also leaves behind many spiritual children from his years of counseling and evangelism.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Longsworth; parents, John and Hester Longsworth; brother, Paul Blair Sr.; and sisters, Pauline Wagner, Patsy Blaylock, and Sue Lairmore.
A funeral service will be held at Glad Tidings Church on Saturday September 3, 2016 at 11:00AM. Pastor Stephen Perry will be officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00AM that morning. Burial will be in Pasadena, TX at Grand View Memorial Park at 3:30PM on that Saturday.
