Dr. Logan Perkins

Dr. Logan Postell Perkins, Jr. was born November 17, 1941 in Lake Charles, Louisiana and passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at his home in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Sulphur, Louisiana was his home until graduation from Sulphur High School in 1959. He received his Medical Degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA in 1966 and a BA from Tulane in 1962. At Tulane he was a senior member of the Owl Club, a service organization to promote better student-faculty relations and more inspiring teaching and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Logan interned at Charity Hospital of New Orleans (1966-67) and served as Assistant Surgeon with the Public Health Service (1967-1969). His Urology training began at the University of Alabama in Birmingham as a Junior Resident in General Surgery (1969-1970), Eurology Resident (1970-1972), and Chief Resident in Urology (1972-1973). In 1973 he obtained an American Board of Urology Certification and recertifications during his years of practice. Professional memberships included the AMA, AUA and Calcasieu Parish Medical Society. He practiced urology in Sulphur and Lake Charles and was on the staff of all local hospitals from 1973 until his retirement in 2006. WCCH named a new wing at the hospital in honor of Dr. Perkins' dedicated service to the hospital. Logan was a fitness enthusiast. Among his favorite sports were fishing, hunting, and handball. Dr. Perkins was predeceased by his parents, Logan Postell Perkins and Mary Maude McCann. His grandfather, Dr. Dosite' Samuel Perkins was a pioneer Physician in Sulphur. He is survived by his wife, Meredith Hebert Perkins, children, Susan E. Perkins, Dr. Dosite S. Perkins, II (Kristen) and Bruce Staples Perkins (Courtney). Others include his step-children, Christiane B. Perkins and Jennifer B. Karam (Charles). Grandchildren are Phoebe and Simone Perkins and John Turner Mosely II. Also, Megan Elizabeth , Graham Kesler, Alexander Logan, William Staples and Dylan Turner and Jaxon Camden Perkins. Step-grandchildren are Gabrielle and Meredith Karam and Ana- Claire Perkins. Pallbearers will be Samuel Y. Pruitt, Logan, P. Pruitt, Dr. J. King White, Dr. Brian Gamborg, Judson J. McCann, Jr., John Turner Mosely,II., J.B. Postell and Dr. A. Kent Seale. Honorary pallbearers will be John E. Bergstedt, Dr. Devin Seale and Collin Seale. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the many people who loved and cared for Logan throughout his seven year illness. We could not have continued without your support. A special thanks to Martha, his office nurse for so many years and his special cousin, Virginia K. Pruitt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cure PSP, 30 E. Padonia Rd., Ste. 2012, Timonium. MD 21093, or to the charity of your choice. Services will be at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, November 2, 2013 at St. Martin DePorres Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday, November 1, 2013 at 4:00 P.M to 9:00 P.M. with a 6:00 P.M. Rosary and Scripture Service at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 8:00 A.M. until time of services. Fr. Keith Pellerin will officiate services. Burial will be at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
