Dr. Patrick Mark Crawford, Sr., 70, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 6:45 PM on Friday, March 13, 2015. Dr. Crawford was born on July 22, 1944, in Lake Charles, LA, where he has lived most of his life. He was a 1962 graduate of Landry High School, where he was the president of his senior class. After marrying the love of his life, Charmayne Hannie, he graduated from McNeese State University before completing dental school at Loyola School of Dentistry in New Orleans. Dr. Crawford served his country for two years in the U.S. Army at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio before returning back to New Orleans to finish his orthodontic residency at L.S.U. School of Dentistry. After this, he moved his family back home to Lake Charles to open his private orthodontic practice in which he enjoyed tremendously for the next 27 years. He had a special place in his heart for his patients and his staff. Dr. Crawford was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where he served on the Parish Counsel. He was a member of the Serra Club, where he was the treasurer. He was also a past-president of the SWLA District of the Louisiana Dental Association and a member of the American Association of Orthodontists. He loved the "idea" of hunting and deep sea fishing but mostly enjoyed his family vacations and the comforts of home. He was also a devoted LSU and New Orleans Saints fan and was an athletic booster of McNeese State University. Dr. Crawford was a very outgoing individual who loved to spend time with others. He was a regular on Maw Maw's backporch, where he enjoyed visiting with his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and many friends discussing sports, politics, or the topic of the day. He was a compassionate, hardworking man who loved to give to others. More than any of this, he was a loving, dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was a great man. Dr. Crawford is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Charmayne Hannie Crawford; sons, Dr. Patrick Mark Crawford, Jr. and wife Caroline and Dr. Craig Crawford and wife Angela; daughter, Sharon Weatherford and husband Stuart; sisters, Phyllis Solari and husband Jim, Mary Higdon and husband Danny, Carolyn Toups and husband Joe, and Susan Meche; brothers, Dr. John Crawford and wife Anna and Joe Crawford and wife Karen; grandchildren, Daniel Patrick Henry, Zo Crawford, Eli Crawford, Olive Crawford, and Rooney Crawford; and numerous other family members, friends, and former employees that he held close to his heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman and Louise Crawford; brother, Peter Lyman Crawford; and sister, Jane Crawford. His funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, March 16, 2015 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate along with Rev. Doyle Evans. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Sunday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with service of remembrance at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Donations can be made to the St. Louis Catholic High School Foundation.
