Dr. Richard Heath Lee, Jr., 89, of Lake Charles, LA died at 5:30 AM on Sunday, July 31, 2011.
Dr. Lee was born December 3, 1921 in Ashland, LA and has lived in Lake Charles for the past fifty-five years. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, where he was stationed in the South Pacific and installed early Loran Radio Stations in the islands in the South Pacific. He was a graduate of Ashland High School, attended Stephen F. Austin University, Northwestern University, and University of Northern Colorado, where he received his EdD. Dr. Lee worked as a teacher at Lake Charles High School and later as a principal at Central School and Fairview Elementary, where he retired in 1980. He also worked at McNeese State University, where he taught Business Statistics for several years. A member of St. Michael and All Angel's Episcopal Church, Dr. Lee also enjoyed woodworking, genealogy, and writing family biographies. He will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband.
Dr. Lee is survived by his son, Richard H. "Rick" Lee, III of Lake Charles; brother, Nolan Lee of Dallas, TX; sisters, Adelle Flenniken and Sarah Price of Natchitoches, LA; granddaughter, Jennifer Jane Lee of Lake Charles; dear friends Mike and Marylane Seago, and their children, Hannah, Ethan, and Evan Seago, and Katie Barrow.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dr. LaJuana W. Lee; parents, Richard Heath Lee, Sr. and Agnes Lee; and sister, Carolyn Lee.
His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Father Peter Cook will officiate. Graveside service will be at 3:00 PM on Tuesday at Highland Cemetery in Mansfield, LA. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation can be made to the LaJuana W. Lee Memorial Scholarship at McNeese State University or St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church.
