Ronald Duke Landry passed away December 19, at the age of 82, following a lengthy illness.
Born May 9, 1938 to David Adam & Mildred Rose Fontenot Landry, Duke was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. He attended Lake Charles High and was an alumni of Landry High School. Duke worked many years as an ironworker superintendent for a local union until retirement. He spent his post retirement years as a Deputy for the CPSO and a well-known Mercury outboard mechanic.
Duke was a man of many talents and hobbies. He was a true sportsman who hunted and fished all of his life, from the marshes of southern Louisiana to the Hill Country of West Texas. Duke loved the water. In his youth, he was on the Lake Charles Sowela Ski Team, and later, a charter member of the LC Boat Club. He was a proud 45-year NRA member, an avid Nascar fan, and a Saints, LSU, and yes, even the Dallas Cowboys football fan. He could fix or build anything, and enjoyed building, designing and restoring vehicles-like the big bus he re-made for his hunting buddies.
Lovingly known as Pops and Papa Duke, he enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge of skills to his kids and grandchildren. With his unmistakable, trademark flat-top haircut, and his love for Cajun food, music, and friends, Duke lived the motto “Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler”.
Duke leaves behind his “Darlin” of 29 years, Nancy Langford Landry; two sons- Darren Landry (Cheryl) of Katy, TX and Dwayne Landry (Stephanie) of Lake Charles; three stepdaughters he proudly claimed as his- Lisa Abbott (Jerry) of San Angelo, TX, Kari Mikeska (Wesley) of San Angelo, TX, and Wendy Roach (Brian) of Lake Charles; eleven grandchildren- Dustin, Haylee, Hannah, Lauren, Claire, Olivia, Drew, Gavin, Nathan, Natalie, and Mattie; five great-grandchildren- Dakota, Garrett, Gabe, Sawyer, and Braxton; brothers David (Janelle) Landry and Jean (Laurie) Landry both of Lake Charles; beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Duke is preceded in death by his parents, Big Daddy and Big Mama, his infant daughter, Robin Lynn Landry and his younger brother, Danny Landry.
