E. Lloyd Manuel

January 6, 1921 — June 11, 2013

E. Lloyd Manuel passed away on June 11, 2013 in Austin, Texas at 92 years of age. He was born January 6, 1921 in Chataignier, Louisiana, the only child of Lazin and Agatha Billedeaux Manuel.

Lloyd graduated from Basile High School in 1938 and attended a year of college at Southwest Louisiana Institute in Lafayette. He left college and began a life-long career in sales across a variety of industries. He married Elsie J. Davis in October, 1940, and the couple had two daughters, Dianne and Frances. He and Elsie had been married almost 62 years when she died in 2003. Shortly thereafter, Lloyd moved to Austin to be near his family.

Survivors include two daughters, Frances G. Greenburg and Dianne Casey and her husband, Dwight; granddaughter, Sabra Olivieri ; grandsons, Jason Hayes and wife Sherry LeBlanc Hayes and Jared L. Greenburg; and great grandchildren, Jon Olivieri, William Olivieri, Claire Olivieri, and Laken LeBlanc Hayes.

Lloyd served in the U.S. Army during World War II, with service in both Europe prior to war's end and in the Philippines with the Army of the Occupation. He was civic-minded and served on the Cajun Days committee from its inception and for about 10 years thereafter. He was a history buff with a phenomenal memory and a special interest in Louisiana history. He retired from LaFarge North America, Inc. in 1984. After retirement he and Elsie traveled over the state attending festivals celebrating local historical events, food and culture.

His most memorable vacations were the two trips to Hawaii he and his wife took with friends. He loved Louisiana French music, Easter and Mardi Gras, Super Bowl parties at a friend's camp, and bird hunting (with a guide and someone to clean the game!). He shared a birthday with a close friend and each year their annual co-birthday party was a winter highlight.

Lloyd was proud of his family and his very favorite activities were times spent with food, drink, laughs and conversation with friends.
