Earl Hallie Moore, 87, of Lake Charles, LA, passed on December 26, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. Earl was born in Rushville, Illinois, on December 28, 1929, to Hallie Moore and Maude Stephens Moore.
Earl grew up during the Great Depression and played the cornet. He later entered the United States Air Force where he was a mechanic working on airplanes during the Korean Conflict. After leaving the Air Force, he entered Sowela Technical Institute and became an Electronics Technician. Earl was a convert to Catholicism and married his wife, Sandra, on November 19, 1955.
During Earl’s working years, he became involved in the United States Power Squadron, Lake Charles Chapter. He taught boating safety for many years and was a Past Commander.
Earl loved all sports; he was an avid bowler, loved golf, fishing, and archery in his younger years. Earl loved watching television as his life was surrounded by them. Earl retired as an electronics technician from Curtis Mathes in Lake Charles. He followed the careers of John Wayne and his cousin, Neville Brand.
He built his first computer and weather station and in retirement built a working model lighthouse. He loved playing cards with everyone and usually won. He prayed daily rosaries and attended St. Henry Catholic Church and St. Margaret Catholic Church.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Louise Moore Pryor, Karl Moore, John Melvin Moore, Nancy Moore Feld, Laura May Moore Perry and his beloved cat, Fluffy.
Earl is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Sandra Gail Poinboeuf Moore; his children, Melissa Danette Moore Woods (Bobby), Anastasia Moore Fischer (Warren), Alan Jeffrey Moore (Debbie), Andrew Derek Moore (Anjeanette), Sandy Jeanne Moore, and Hallie Louise Moore; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews; as well as two beloved dogs, Roxie and Diamond.
His funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, January 5, 2018 at St. Henry Catholic Church. Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Cursillo Rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations for Funeral Mass and prayers can be made to St. Henry Catholic Church.
