Earline Taylor Pharr

February 9, 1941 — August 26, 2023

MOSS BLUFF — Earline (“MeMe”) passed away peacefully at home on August 26, 2023, with her daughter Karla by her side. She defied all odds with cancer when doctors gave her six months to live in 2009.

Earline was born on February 9, 1941, to Ivan and Lena (Aguillard) Taylor in Eunice. She lived most of her life in Lake Charles and was a 1959 graduate of LaGrange High School.

Earline’s zest for life was unmatched to all who had the gift of being in her joyful presence. Whether she was dancing the jitterbug to her favorite oldies or making a fashion statement with her signature leopard — in clothing and decor — Earline was an inspiration to many. Her lengthy illness didn’t stop that!

Her positive attitude, determination and strong will was a testament to her family and friends, most notably her hospice team of five years.

A word of sincere appreciation for the loving care shown to Earline by Brighton Bridge Hospice is sincerely expressed to Melinda, Joyce, Veronica, Ms. Pat, Shay, Chasity, and June. There were countless visits when Earline greeted them with, “Hey, baby! I love you!”

A favorite pastime for Earline was fishing and crabbing in Hackberry, which she later enjoyed sharing with her grandchildren. She was an exceptional cook known for her pineapple glazed hams, especially around the holidays, and her rice and gravy.

Over the years, Earline did accounting work at Newberry’s in downtown Lake Charles, was the Secretary for 25 years for East Aluminum Products, was front desk clerk at the Hilton on the Lakefront (later called the Holiday Inn) and would eventually retire in 2008 from Foret Furniture.

Earline was a longtime member of St. Margaret Parish before moving to Moss Bluff where she attended St. Theodore Catholic Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are Karla and Joe Tullos of Moss Bluff; her sister, Deborah Taylor Fittz of Westlake; grandson, Zack O’Quinn of Moss Bluff; two great-grandsons, Ryder O’Quinn and Blaise Tullos. She is also survived by nephews, Jeff, Byron, Ross, and Matthew Taylor, and one niece, Courtney Fittz.

Earline was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Pharr; her parents, Ivan and Lena Taylor; and her brother, Douglas Taylor and his wife, Gwen.

Family and friends gathered on Tuesday, September 5, at Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff to celebrate Earline’s life. The service was officiated by Monsignor Daniel Torres, with Rocky East giving the eulogy. Music was provided by Pastor Hope Snider, Shelton and Alyson Lovern, and Jeff Taylor. Internment was at Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles.

Eternal rest grant unto Earline, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.
