Eddie John Murphy, 81, of Lake Charles, LA died at 10:30 PM on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 in a local hospital.


Mr. Murphy was born September 8, 1930 in Lake Charles, LA, where he was a lifelong resident. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. During his younger years, he worked as a salesman for Lake Shore Motors, Inc. and retired as a sales representative for Huber Oil after over thirty-five years of service. Mr. Murphy enjoyed being at home with his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching TV, especially cooking shows. He was a member of the Prien Lake Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He will be most remembered for his love and devotion to his wife of forty years.


Mr. Murphy is survived by his step-daughters, Rosie Williams of Jennings and Barbara Brown of Lake Charles; step-sons, Cleveland Newman and wife Jeanie of Broaddus, TX and Michael Newman and wife Kathy of Sulphur; sister, Mary Ann Boulet and husband Ronald of Fort Walton Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Geri Murphy of Lake Charles; nine step-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild;


He was preceded in death by his wife, Freida Matthews Murphy; parents, Allie and Nola Carrathers Murphy; and brother, A. W. Murphy.


His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Jerry Broussard will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Sunday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
