Edgar Bud Miller, Jr.

Edgar "Bud" Miller, Jr. was born in 1925 in Lake Charles to Edgar Miller, Sr. and Ida Ruth Williams Miller at their home at 1018 Pujo St. He resided in Lake Charles until recently when he moved to Kingwood, TX. He died August 17, 2012.

He received his education at Central and Lake Charles High School, class of 1942. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering at LSU in 1948 and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He was an Ensign in the U.S. Navy during WWII where he went into the Naval Air Corps for pilot training and then served on a destroyer in the Atlantic.

Bud married Betty Elaine Nelson of Lake Charles in 1945 in the home of the bride's parents, Mr. Mrs. A.A. Nelson. He worked for Sun Pipe Line Co. and Mid-Valley Pipe Line Co., both subsidiaries of Sun Oil Co. (Sunoco). For 37 years, he and Betty lived not only all over Texas but also in Tulsa, OK and Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He rose through the ranks becoming Manager of the Southwest Region of Sun Pipe Line Co., and Vice President of Mid-Valley. In 1985, he retired and he and Betty returned to Lake Charles to make their home. Betty died in 2006.

In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and boating and was passionate about LSU football. Bud was a faithful member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. He is survived by his daughter Ruth Miller Williams and husband, John L. Williams of Humble, TX, his grandchildren Allen E. Williams and wife, Jennifer of Houston, TX, Helen E. Cochran and husband, Paul of Leander, TX, and John L. Williams, Jr. of Midland, TX. His great-grandchildren are Madeline and Mason Williams of Houston, Cameron Cochran of Leander, Kacey and Katie Cochran of Leander Belton, TX. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Charles F. Miller of Westlake and Mathilde Bahnsen Miller of Westlake/Lake Charles, his parents Edgar Miller, Sr. of Lake Charles and Ida Ruth Williams Miller of Log Town just south of Monroe, a brother, Charles F. Miller formerly of Lake Charles, and his beloved wife Betty Nelson Miller of Lake Charles.

His funeral is being arranged by Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles and will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd on Monday, August 20, 2012, 1:30 PM. The Rev. Jack Myers, Rector, will officiate. Visitation will be at the church at 12:00 PM before the service. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery. Pallbearers are Brigham Miller, Jack Miller, Mike Miller, Paul Cochran, Gary Smith, Jim Dufrene, Charles Sylvester, and George Paret.

The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, or Grace Hospice of Texas, Houston, TX, if desired.

Also, the family would like to thank caregivers Sandra Quintanar and Jan Lawrence for their undying compassion and loving devotion given to our loved one in his time of need. Also, our gratitude goes out to Grace Hospice's Alice Morgan, nurse, Gaby Gutierrez and Megan Gomez, aides, for not only their kindness, dedication, and expertise but also for always being there when they were needed.
