Edgar Dale "Mano" Stine, 79, of Lake Charles, LA died at 9:05 PM on Monday, January 9, 2012 in his residence.
Mr. Stine was born March 15, 1932 in Lake Charles, LA, where he has lived most of his life. He was a 1951 graduate of Iowa High School, where he was on the first six man football team and was on the All-State team. He served his country for four years in the U.S. Navy and played on the Admiral team, winning the 6th Annual Naval District Softball Championship in 1954. Mr. Stine worked thirty-seven years for Superior Oil / Mobil Oil, retiring in 1992 as a lease operator. He was a very active member of St. Luke-Simpson United Methodist Church and was a part of the Wesley Sunday School Class. He loved sports and played softball most of his adult life. He played bean bag baseball for the recreation league, winning the Senior Olympics in 2011. He will always be remembered as a wonderful husband and father, who was always smiling and laughing.
Mr. Stine is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Melba Honeycutt Stine; daughter, Debbie S. Myers and husband Charles L. Myers; sisters, Shirley S. Marshall and husband Rufus B. Marshall and Audrey S. Fink; step-granddaughter, Sheree M. Tucker, all of Lake Charles; grand-dog, Daisy; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Philip William Stine, II; parents, Philip W. and Docia Derouen Stine; brother, Charles W. Stine; step-grandson, Shane Myers; and in-laws, Gordon and Dollie Honeycutt.
His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at St. Luke-Simpson United Methodist Church. Reverends Karl Klaus, Henry Bowdon, and David Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery in Iowa, LA. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and continue on Thursday at the church from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
