Edith Pauline Polly Mertzweiller

Edith Pauline "Polly" Mertzweiller, 88, of Lake Charles passed away on July 2, 2012. Mrs. Mertzweiller was born January 29, 1924 in Buffalo, Arkansas to parents Edward W. and Edna K. Emmett. She moved to Lake Charles in 1934 and graduated from LaGrange High School in 1941. Mrs. Mertzweiller attended Sowela Technical School and later worked at United Gas and Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for a number of years. She was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church.

Polly was a very caring and loving person who passionately gave of her time as a volunteer at the Calcasieu Women's Shelter and the American Heart Association.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Bernard J. Mertzweiller, Jr., her parents Edward W. and Edna K. Emmett, one sister, Ruby Darby, and two brothers, Ernest W. Emmett and Dr. Robert O. Emmett.

She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Ruth Madison and Genevieve LeJeune, both of Lake Charles, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and good friends.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, July 05, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Ed Lemke will officiate. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation Thursday will be from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home.
