Edmund F. Helms

July 31, 1939 — March 24, 2021

Edmund F. Helms, 81 of Lake Charles, LA passed away on March 24, 2021.

He was one of two children born to Edmund “Bully” and Darles B. Helms. He was born on July 31, 1939 in Lake Charles.

He was a lifelong resident of Sweetlake and graduated from Grand Lake High School. The simpler things in life brought him joy, spending time with his family and hunting. He often enjoyed going duck hunting in Cameron, raising cattle, and was a rice and bean farmer.

He was a great friend to those who knew him and never met a stranger. He was always willing to help others in need. He was a jokester and enjoyed a good laugh. He was a talented musician and could play almost anything he put his hands on, but the harmonica was his favorite. Often he shared his musical talents playing in the church band.

Later in life he began working at Hercules, what we now know as Lyondell, until his retirement.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, and his brother, Dr. Jerry Dwayne Helms.

He is survived by his children, Timothy Helms, Sabrah Helms-Kingham, Cheryl Helms-Rowan, and Scott Helms; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family.

The family will welcome friends on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at University Baptist beginning at 5pm to 8pm. Visitation will resume at 9am Wednesday, March 31, 2021. A funeral service will begin at 10am with burial to follow at Prien Memorial Park.
