Edward Aucoin

Edward Aucoin, 96, of Lake Charles passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings, LA.

He was born February 13, 1927 in Mamou, LA to the late Eumeze and Ednise Aucoin.

While attending a movie, he met Hazel Bellon, she was working in the ticket booth of the local theatre and together they exchanged vows in 1944.

In 1945 at the age of 18, he enlisted into the United States Army during World War II.

He served with the Horse Calvary at Ft. Riley. Before he was called up for deployment, thankfully the war ended.

Upon returning home, he moved to Houston, TX and worked at the Dixon Gun Plant. He then returned to the family farm in Mamou, La. A few years later he moved to Lake Charles to work in the surrounding plants.  In 1960 he began attending Barber school and worked in several shops in the Lake Charles area until he was able to open his own location. In 1967 he established Ed’s Barber Shop and it remained in business until his retirement in 2002.

He was a faithful member of St. Margaret Catholic Church until his wife’s passing in 2010. He was a member of American Legion for over seventy-six years, serving as a chaplain and officer. His most recent post being Post 370 in Westlake, LA.

He enjoyed restoring classic cars and was a member of the Model A Club and Golden Gulf Car Club. He and Hazel also enjoy camping throughout Southwest Louisiana.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his beloved wife, Hazel Marie Aucoin; his parents, brother, Lee Bruce Aucoin; and a granddaughter, Kathy Peltier.

Those left to cherish his memory; three children, Pat (Tom) Brown, Charles (Ann) Aucoin, and Barney (Teresa) Aucoin; four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.

Graveside services led by Father Clyde Thomas will be held 1pm, on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be held in chapel of Johnson Funeral Home, Saturday, November 4, 2023 beginning 10am to 12pm with an American Legion Presentation to follow.
