Edward Lamar Dever

September 11, 1945 — November 20, 2015

After a brief illness, Capt. Eddy passed away, Friday, November 20, 2015 at Cal Cam Hospital surrounded by loved ones.   In the wake of Eddy Dever’s life, he leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of forty-nine years, MaryAnn Cannon Dever and his best friend, Buddy. He lived the best years of his life in Deatonville, LA.   During his earlier days, all he had was an aluminum boat, transistor radio, welding umbrella, and listening to “Joline”. Parking his truck at “”Noblocks” with Brute in the back, while selling his shrimp. He will never be forgotten because he will live on forever in the things he taught his loved ones. He felt blessed to see and hear the abundance of ducks and geese and enjoyed the freedom of living off the land. He loved commercial shrimping which he did for twelve years with his best deckhand in this world on the “Millie Ann”. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He was a member of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, where he was a member of the ACTS and made his Cursillo. He will be dearly missed by everyone at Country Club Hair for his sweeping, his wit, snoring with a toothpick in his mouth, smiles, and great conversation.   Eddy is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Cannon Dever; sister, Lorraine Dever Smith; many nieces and nephews, too many to name, and many loving friends.   His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 23, 2015 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate. Private burial will be at Graceland Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.   Pallbearers for the service will be Mark Smith, Shawn Miller, Harry Conner, Ryan Landry, Danny Guillory, and Huey West.   Mary Ann would like to express a word of thanks to the staff of ICU at Calcasieu Cameron Hospital and the Physicians, and a special word of thanks to Dr. Jody George and staff, and Charlie Watson and Jeff Papania.   Words of comfort to the family may be expressed at www.johnsonfuneralhome.net
