Edward Hester Oakley, 99, of Lake Charles, LA, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Eddie was born on September 14, 1925, to Eloise Hester and Edward Barry Oakley. He grew up in Montgomery, Alabama, before relocating to Lake Charles in 1949. Eddie worked for 27 years as a Traffic Manager at Cities Service and later served as the manager of CSE Federal Employees Credit Union from 1975 until his retirement. He was also a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church.
A proud graduate of the University of Alabama, Edward served proudly in the U.S. Air Force serving in the Philippines during World War II. He played a significant role in organizing Little League baseball in Lake Charles, leaving a lasting legacy in the community.
He is survived by his sons, Philip Oakley (Pam) and Randy Oakley (Linda); his grandchildren, Jared Oakley (Elisa), Amy Hennessey (Matt), and Ken Oakley (Sydna); as well as 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lucy Amelia Green Oakley; his parents, Eloise Hester and Edward Barry Oakley; and his great grandchild, Levi Oakley; brothers, James Oakley and Charles Oakley.
A funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church 11:30am Friday December 20, 2024, with Rev. Weldon Barres officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 till the time of services Friday. A private burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.
