Edward Stephen Galayda

Edward Stephen Galayda, 76, passed away peacefully with his family at his side in his Lake Charles Home on Sunday December 19, 2010.


Edward was a born December 1, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA and lived there for 65 years before moving with his wife to Lake Charles. He worked for LTV Steel Corporation, formerly Jones Laughlin, for 35 years as an electrician and diesel mechanic. Of all the trades Edward was skilled in, he especially loved carpentry work. He served in the Air Force and Army Reserves. One of Edward's greatest joys was going ballroom dancing and spending time with his beloved dog, Buddy.


He was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Pittsburg, PA and St. Margaret Catholic Church in Lake Charles and was an altar server for many years in Pittsburgh and a 4th degree Knight of Columbus in Lake Charles.


Those left to honor and cherish his memories are his loving wife of 54 years, Patricia Clarke Galayda, Lake Charles; daughters, Ruth Cavanagh, Pittsburgh, PA; Terri Angelini and husband Carmen, Lake Charles, and Patty Galayda, Yuma City, CA; sister, Eleanor Gavigan; sister-in-law, Marry Lou Long; grandson, Carmen Edward Angelini; granddaughters, Melissa, Jessica and Veronica Cavanagh; niece and nephews, Jennifer Gavigan, Michael Gavigan and Denny Long and wife Janet. Preceding him in death were his parents, Peter and Anna Galayda, son Edward Peter Galayda and brother, Bobby Galayda.


Visitation will be Tuesday December 21 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM today with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday December 22 at Johnson Funeral Home with Father Bill Miller Officiating. Burial will be at Consolota Cemetery.


The family would like to thank his devoted doctor for 10 years, Dr. Luke Williams, who provided special care and had become like family to Edward, and also the staff of St. Patrick's Dubois, Cornerstone Hopsitals, and Harbour House Hospice for the loving care shown to Edward during his illness.
