Edward Thomas "Pig" Hebert, 86, of Lake Charles passed away Saturday March 1, 2014 in a local hospital surrounded by his loving family. Edward was a native of Grand Lake and a longtime resident of Lake Charles. He honorably served our country in the United States Army during World War II in Germany and later retired after serving the residents of Lake Charles as a Fire Fighter. He was the first driver of the first snorkel truck that Lake Charles Fire Department added to its fleet. Edward enjoyed reading the newspaper from the front to the last page and keeping up with the news. He was a Christian by faith. Preceding Edward in death are his beloved wife of 60 years, Verdie Manning Hebert; parents, Ezra Hebert, and Elizabeth McCallister (Pierre D.) Hebert; brothers, Ernest "Boone" Hebert, Wilson "Grow" Hebert, and Robert "Booster" Hebert. Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his son, Edward Earl Hebert and wife Joan of Sulphur; daughters, Rhonda Mae Benoit and husband Glenn, Grand Lake, Mona LeJeune and husband Brian, Moss Bluff, Tammy Toups and husband Raymond, Woodville, TX, and Missie Davis and husband Mark of Grand Lake; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. As to Mr. Hebert's wishes, a private family service was held on Tuesday March 4, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Andrew Martin officiating. Burial was in Pujol Cemetery in the Old Settlement, Big Lake.
