Effie G. Hayes, 90, of Lake Charles died at 10:30 PM Saturday, December 17, 2011 in her residence with her loving family at her side.


Born in New Iberia, Louisiana to the parents of Effie and Anthony Gautreau. She was a 1938 graduate of New Iberia High School. Mrs. Hayes has lived in the Lake Charles area since 1950. She was a pioneer member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church where she participated in serving as a Catholic Daughter, and Ladies Altar Society. She sang in her spare time in the Resurrection Choir and was also at one time the church seamstress sewing flags and quilts. Mrs. Hayes was also well known for her Divinity that everyone enjoyed.


She is survived by one son Allen A Hayes and his wife Ann of Magnolia, TX, two daughters Mary Gregory and husband Chris, and Nell H. Richard both of Lake Charles, one brother Floyd Gautreau , three sisters Loudella Migues, Nettie Larson all of New Iberia, LA, and Susie Colley of Dallas, TX, eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.


Effie is preceded in death by her husband Larry "Tiggie" Hayes, her parents and four other siblings.


Her funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Our Lady Queen of heaven Catholic Church. Rev. John Huckaby will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Monday at 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a Scripture Service to be held at 6:00 PM followed by a rosary at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at 8:000 AM until 12:30 Pm in the funeral home.
