Elaine Katherine Stewart

Elaine Katherine (Kazirod) Stewart, 78, of Lake Charles, LA went home to be with the Lord on July 4, 2015. Elaine was born in Milwaukee, WI on July 28, 1936. She was married on January 26, 1957 to her beloved husband Harry Charles Stewart, who never left her side during her 13 year battle with cancer. They shared 58 beautiful years together living, loving, and ministering to everyone they met. Elaine shared her love and passions with those around her. Her obvious gift was teaching as seen in being in the ministry as a pastor's wife. She was the ladies Sunday School teacher at Faith Bible Church where many were touched by her Godly wisdom. She also taught school for 17 years at Faith Christian Academy (3rd-4th grades). Elaine told her students that her class was the "grow up grade." And grow up they did, as she had a way of teaching with creativity and fun. Any former student could tell about the legend of "Yahootie." Another shared passion was garage sale Saturdays. Elaine was the original "early bird" who gathered the troops of family and friends and shopped until the van was loaded with bargains and treasures. She also loved cruises (platinum member), playing games, the music of the Gaithers, black licorice, and most especially being called "Nana." Elaine was most passionate about her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. On March 10, 1973 she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. Giving away butterfly pins was her favorite way to share God's transformation in her life. She would say "before Christ I was a lowly caterpillar, after accepting Christ I transformed into a beautiful butterfly. Two of her favorite Bible verses were; 1 Corinthians 15:57 "Thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." and, Isaiah 40:31 "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen Kazirod and Mildred Paskula Kazirod; and a son, Vance Charles Stewart. She is survived by her husband, Harry Charles Stewart; sisters, Coureen Rogers and husband Danny of Eagle River, WI and Diane Sterle and husband Richard of Greenfield, WI; son, Blaize Stewart and wife Dona of West Yellowstone, MT; daughter, Wendy Machen and husband Robert of Port St. Lucie, FL; daughter, Jody Tedeton and husband Curt of Montevallo, AL; daughter, Tammy Greathouse and husband James of Lake Charles, LA; and son, Jason Stewart and wife Julia of Lake Charles, LA; thirty-three grandchildren, Autumn and Philip Bridgers, Antoinette and Russell Drott, Blaize and April Stewart, Benjamin Stewart, Stephen Lee, Jennifer and Chris Dietz, Rachel and Paul Albaugh, Ashley and Frank Barrientes, Jonathon Tedeton, Stephen and Katie Tedeton, Amber and Mason Smith, Abigail and Daniel Marshall, Anna Tedeton, Stewart and Erica Greathouse, Elaine and Jeremy Leger, Lawrence and Jessica Greathouse, Katherine Greathouse, and Valerie, Vanessa, Veronica, and Vance Stewart; and twenty-eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Faith Bible Church, 6737 Corbina Rd., Lake Charles, LA 70607. Dr. Bart Leger will officiate. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Garden Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin in the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Tuesday in the church from 9:30 AM until the start of the service.
