Elbert Whiteaker

Reverend Elbert Lee Whiteaker of Westlake, Louisiana passed away at the age of 91 on April 1, 2021, in a local hospital.

Reverend Whiteaker was born on January 13, 1930, to Joseph and Maud Whiteaker in Carrier Mills, Illinois. Elbert was their only child and was named after his mother's brother, Elbert.

He married Mildred Schwartz Metz, a widow with three children, in September 1953. He was granted a minister's license in the Nazarene church and did some supply pastoring. He and Mildred and the children went to Rock Island, Illinois to attend Bible Missionary Institute in the early 60's. They both eventually graduated with a theology degree and were ordained as ministers in the Bible Missionary Church. They became members of the Mt. Vernon, Illinois congregation and were there until after the children were grown. They later pastored churches in Conway, Arkansas; Tullahoma, Tennessee; and Natchitoches, Louisiana. They retired to Westlake, Louisiana in 2001 to be near their daughters. Rev. Whiteaker was a member of the Sulphur Bible Missionary Church at his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Maud; and his wife of 55 years, Mildred.

He is survived by Mildred's three children: Shirley Stracener of Westlake, Louisiana; Danny Metz of Rhode Island; and Alice (Kennith) Adamson, of Longville, Louisiana. He was also blessed with 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM on Monday, April 5th, 2021, at Lake City Baptist Church, 3940 Holly Hill Road, Lake Charles. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM. Reverend Michael Eaton, pastor, will be officiating with Reverend William Whited assisting. Cremation will follow under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Burial in Galatia, Illinois will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sulphur Bible Missionary Church for Hurricane Laura repairs or to the family for outstanding expenses.
