Eleanor Rathjen

Eleanor Laura Grill Rathjen, 90, of Westlake, LA died at 8:30 AM on Thursday, October 18, 2012 in her residence.

Mrs. Rathjen was born June 22, 1922 in Donahue, IA and lived in Missouri for a number of years. She moved to Lake Charles in 1988 and lived in Westlake for the past ten years. She was an active member of Victory Baptist Church in Lake Charles, where she was part of the Silver Saints and the Lady's Prayer Group. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #407 in Westlake, LA. She enjoyed farming, playing games with her family, and family gatherings, but her pride and joy was her grandchildren.

Mrs. Rathjen is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years, Lawrence W. Rathjen; daughters, Judith A. Rathjen of Westlake and Joyce E. Perron and husband Larry C. of Westlake; sister, Alta Hamann of Walcott, IA; grandchildren, Cynthia L. Allman and husband Timothy M. of Mesquite, TX, Steven M. Rathjen and wife Jackie M. of Westlake, LA, Carolyn A. Miller and husband C. Scott of Moss Bluff, LA, and Liza J. Perron and husband David W. Eldridge, Sr. of Sulphur, LA; and great-grandchildren, Tyler M. Perron of Mesquite, TX, Michael G., Aaron S. and Kristen A. Miller of Moss Bluff, LA, Samantha A. and Jessica B. Rathjen of Westlake, LA, Kevin M. and Austin M. Perron, David W. Eldridge, Jr. of Sulphur, LA, Lakeyn M. VanAsselberg and husband Jacob of Lafayette, LA, and Nathan and Lauren Allman of Granberry, TX.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Michael J. and Kevin M. Perron; parents, Herman and Laura Denklau Grill; brother, Arnold Grill; and sister, Luetta Arp.

Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Wayne Dartez will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Sunday from 11:00 AM until the start of the service.
