Dr. Eli Sorkow, 87, of Lake Charles passed away after a brief illness at 4:29 PM, Tuesday, September 7, 2010 in a local hospital.
He was a native of New York City and moved to Lake Charles in 1954 after serving his intership in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Sorkow was a Veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the Medical Detachment of the 1884th Service Command Unit during W. W. II. Dr. Sorkow served in Family Practice of Medicine for over fifty years in Lake Charles and was a member of Temple Sinai.
Survivors included his wife Claire Kushner Sorkow; two sons, Louis Charles "Casey" Sorkow and William Edward Sorkow all of Lake Charles; two sisters, Addis Sirota and Rita Gordon both of New York; five grandchildren, Zachary, Paige, Alexander, Katy, and Ben and two great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, September 10, 2010 at Temple Sinai on Hodges Street in Lake Charles followed by a brief Cemetery Service in Orange Grove Cemetery. Rabbi Barry Weinstein will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM, on Thursday in the funeral home and continue from 8:30 AM until 9:30 AM, Friday morning, at Temple Sinai.
Donations can be made to the Tree of Life Fund of Temple Sinai, the American Heart Association, or the Cancer Society.
