Elias Burton Swire

December 21, 1931 — September 14, 2020

Elias Burton “Burt” Swire, 88, of Hackberry passed away Monday, September 14, 2020. 

Burt was a lifelong resident of Hackberry and a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.  As a United States Army Veteran, he served his country during the Korean Conflict. Burt was a heavy equipment operator for Citgo Refinery retiring after 30 years of service.  He loved fishing, shrimping, crabbing and hunting; surf fishing at Holly Beach was one of his favorite hobbies.  Burt was a gifted accordion player and an excellent cook.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 26 years, and mother of his children, Eula Mae Duhon Swire; his parents, Jessie and Rosa Swire, two sisters and four brothers.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 35 years, Lessie “Sissy”  Swire; five children, Linda Aguirre of Carlyss,  James Swire of Hackberry, Robert Swire and wife Rhonda of Hackberry, Margaret Collins and husband Buddy of Georgia (recently of Sulphur); and Charlene Constance and husband Sterling of Hackberry; five step-children, Stephanie Fontenot and husband Doug of Carlyss, Ricky Pearson and wife Susie of Carlyss, Stuart Pearson and wife Shelia of Carlyss; Kathleen Wolfe and husband Tom of Arkansas, and Cynthia Scheufens and husband Greg of Carlyss; twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; four brothers, Wilson Swire, Eugene “Catfish” Swire, Jessie Swire, and Ernest Swire; and numerous nieces and nephew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 18, 2020 in St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church of Hackberry. Burial will follow in St. Peter the Apostle Cemetery under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home of Sulphur.   Visitation will be held in the church 9 – 11 a.m., Friday with a Cursillo Rosary at 10 am.
