Elida Trahan Taylor Spears went home to be with her Lord Jesus on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, in a Gonzales, LA hospital. She was born on March 5, 1920 in Thornwell, LA to Duplacian and Odette Newman Trahan.
Elida lived her life to serve Jesus and to be His representative to everyone she met. She loved to care for older people and visit nursing homes. It was her practice after church on Wednesday evening to make these visits and to stop by the funeral home to pay her respects.
Elida loved to work in her yard, growing prize-winning lilies. She was a very active person, even driving her car until after she was ninety years old. It was not unusual for her to drive from her home in Gonzales to visit her daughter in Sulphur, LA. She did not let anything get between her and visiting her family.
Elida is preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Leibert Taylor and Donald Ray Taylor. She is also preceded by her grandson Christopher Don Taylor and her step-son Jerry Wheat, along with her sisters, Ethel Vinsant, Pearl McGee, Amy Prather, and Ella Prather and her brothers Lynn, Odie and Oris Trahan.
Those left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Bobrae “Bobbie” (Harold) Douget of Gonzales, LA, Faye (John) Stearns of Brandon, MS., and Danita (Wayne) Jardneaux of Sulphur, LA. Those who will especially miss her are her 16 grandchildren and her 24 great-grandchildren, along with her step-daughter Dorothy (J.B.) Fontenot and daughter-in-law Christina Taylor. She also leaves her sisters, Doris Reed, Lena Comeaux, and Betty Bacon along with her brother Charles Trahan.
The family will receive friends at Johnson Funeral Home on Saturday, January 20, 2017 from 5-8PM. Vistation will continue at the funeral home on Sunday, January 21, 2017 from 11AM-2:30PM with the funeral service beginning at 2:30PM. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
