Ella Mae Benoit Labby, 85, of Iowa, LA died on Monday, September 24, 2012 in her residence.


Born April 4, 1927 in Westlake, LA, Mrs. Labby lived most of her life in Lake Charles before moving to Iowa seven years ago. She was a graduate of LaGrange High School and was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God. She loved gardening and her plants. She was always active in church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking for others, spending time with her family, and attending rodeos.


Mrs. Labby is survived by her children, Richard Dale Labby and wife Cheryl of Prairieville, LA, Robert Bobby Labby of Iowa, Melvin Glenn Labby and wife Ann of Lake Charles, Becky Turner and husband William of Sulphur, LA and Don Allen Labby of Lake Charles; brother, J. D. Benoit; sisters, Mickey Prather, Ann Dore, Josie Benoit, and Linda Ritter; grandchildren, Dawnita, Brandy, Dusty, Landon, Josh, Alayna, Bethany, Hannah, Matthew, and Charity; 12 great-grandchildren; and her special grand-niece, Shelly.


She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Labby.


Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverends Gary Evers and Howard Holton will officiate. Burial will follow in Benoit Cemetery in Lake Charles. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Sunday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
