Ella Mae Potter

Ella Mae Potter, 96, of Sulphur passed away on May 1, 2011 in her residence. Ella, born June 1, 1914 in Big Heart (now called Barnsdall) Oklahoma, and was the oldest of 8 children born to Samuel Delinsky and Mary Arnce Thornburg. Ella went to beauty school in Tulsa, OK, became a beautician and met her future husband, Harry Potter. Ella and Harry married June 9, 1934 and resided in Sand Springs, OK until 1949 when Harry was transferred from Sinclair Oil Company to Cit-Con Oil in Lake Charles. Ella was a member of Maplewood First Baptist Church, along with her family since 1949. Ella was formerly employed by Mullers, The Fabric House of Lake Charles, Lauras Dress Shop, Jeannies Young Fashions and the China Closet of Sulphur. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Harry Potter; parents; brothers, Sam, Marion, Robert and Cecil Thornburg; and grandson, Kenneth Wade Williams. Ella is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Jeannie and Charles (Bubba) Williams, Betty and Gerald Jordan, all of Sulphur; two brothers, Herbert Thornburg of Porterville, CA and Bill Thornburg of Pine Bluff, AR; one sister, Mary K. Switzer of Baytown, Texas; five grandchildren, Jody Williams of Denham Springs, Clay Williams of Sulphur, Dana Cupit of Houston, Stan and Robert Cupit of Sulphur; 20 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Robison Funeral Home Chapel in Sulphur with Rev. Charley Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clay Williams, Stan Cupit, Robert Cupit, Gannon Williams, Courtney Williams and Jason Spring. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 pm, Wednesday, May 4, 2011 and continue Thursday, May 5, 2011 from 10:00 am until her funeral service at 2:00 pm. The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Gamborg, Odyssey Hospice, and her special caregivers, Evelina King, Evangeline Guillory, Jae Kirkwood, LaToya Rubin, Shamika Guillory and Michelle Vitatoe. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Maplewood First Baptist Church paving fund or the charity of your choice.
