Funeral services for Elmer Lynn Peshoff, 90, of Lake Charles and former resident of Cameron, will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022, at The Vineyard Church at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Lee Whitley officiating.  Burial will follow in the Cameron First Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

Visitation for Mr. Peshoff will begin at The Vineyard on Monday, February 7, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. and continue until service time at 1:00 p.m.

Mr. Peshoff was born on July 10, 1931, in Cameron to parents Martial and Lily Wolfe Peshoff.    Elmer began shrimping as a young man and continued throughout his life making a good living for his family.    He married Nelta Mary Saltzman on May 30, 1952, and they raised four beautiful children.  In 2012, he was honored to be named King Fur XLII at the Louisiana Fur and Wildlife Festival for his contributions to the shrimping industry in Cameron Parish.

Elmer was a religious man, and very faithful in his service as a Deacon at Cameron First Baptist Church.  He and his wife Nelta moved back to Cameron after the devastation of Hurricane Rita; but a few short years later, Hurricane Ike forced them to leave Cameron and move to Lake Charles.  Elmer then became a faithful member of Tom Hebert Baptist Church.

Elmer had one favorite pastime and that was working cattle.  He loved the men he worked cattle with and enjoyed his time with them.   In true Peshoff fashion “he loved to point fingers and bark orders”, which he did in a loving way.  He also had a great sense of humor.  There was no one quite like Elmer.

Mr. Peshoff passed away February 3, 2022, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.   He leaves behind to cherish his memory, Nelta Saltzman Peshoff, his loving wife of  69 years; daughters; Sherry Peshoff, Glenda (Lenard) Jinks, and Renetta (Marvin) Trahan; a son, Kirk (Tammy) Peshoff; eight grandchildren, Shantell McDaniel, Sherrill A. “T-Boy” Authement, Jr., Steven Ray Sorrells, Cassandra Trahan Hall, Kyle Trahan, Jody Jinks, Ashleigh Jinks Blum and Amanda Jinks;  ten great-grandchildren, Hunter Ray Sorrells, Chelsea Sorrells, Konner Sorrells, Blanin Sorrells, Kate McDaniel, Koy McDaniel, Shelby Authement, Caleb Authement, Madison Hall and Avery Trahan;  four great-great grandchildren; Makaylee  and Annistyn Authement, Deegan and Dayton Sorrells and dear friends, Elray “Newt” Henry, Mike Henry and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Manuel, Walter, Clarence, and Morris Peshoff; sisters, Leona LaFosse and Bertha Trahan; and one grandson, Kirk Lynn “Bozo” Sorrells.
