Elodie Fontenot Lavergne

August 9, 1933 — July 12, 2021

Elodie Fontenot Lavergne, 87, of Ragley, LA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 12, 2021.

Ms. Lavergne was born August 9, 1933, in the Mamou area.  She was born into a French speaking family, learning English as her second language.  She lived many years in Sulphur, LA before moving to Ragley almost forty years ago.  She was an active member of New Testament Apostolic Holiness Church, where she was an evangelist and missionary making numerous trips to Mexico and even to Jamaica.  Ms. Lavergne loved outreach work and enjoyed cooking for others.

Ms. Lavergne is survived by her daughter, Vennosia Clophus and husband Rev. Eugene Clophus of Sulphur, LA; son, Elvis Lavergne of Ragley, LA; grandchildren, Nypheteria Clophus of Sulphur and Franyora Dixon and husband Rev. Jason Dixon of Florida; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other family member and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcellus and Marcella Fontenot; five-year-old daughter, Merrial Lavergne; and siblings, Mable DeVille, Eva Guillory, Adam Fontenot, Austin Fontenot, Elvina Gradney, and Theresa Green.

Her funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff (Masks will be required.)  Reverend Harry G. Anderson will officiate.  Burial will be at Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.

The family would like to express a special word of thanks to the friends, nurses, doctors, and St. Joseph’s for the excellent care given and also to her pastor and church family for the prayers and support.

In lieu of flower, donations can be made to your local church or to your favorite charity in Ms. Lavergne’s memory.
