Elouise D. Greathouse

January 12, 1938 — October 13, 2017

Elouise Greathouse, 79, of Lake Charles, died peacefully on Friday, October 13, 2017 in a local care facility surrounded by family and friends.

 

Mrs. Greathouse was born January 12, 1938 in Goosport, the daughter of Agnes and Raybon Demeritt. She married Arlen L. Greathouse on May 29, 1954 at Bethel Baptist Church. He preceded her in death July 16, 2010 after 56 years of marriage.

 

Elouise was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved sewing for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and charity.

 

Elouise also enjoyed crafting, as well as hosting and entertaining. She often opened her home to family and friends; she would spend hours cooking and preparing for guests. She cherished any chance to spend time with her family. She was a very active member of Trinity Baptist and Sale Street Baptist churches.

 

Elouise is survived by three daughters and a son, Dawn (James) Watson, Tamara Greathouse, Caprice (Chuck) Miller, and Eric (Dana) Greathouse; seven grandchildren, Emily (Shawn) Simmons, Beth Hively, Adam Klinger, Lori (Corey) Tarver, Kerry Greathouse, Aaron Greathouse, and Callie Miller; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and close friends.

 

She is also pre-deceased by her parents; one sister, Nona Burr; and one brother, Calvin Demeritt.

The family would like to thank the staff of Resthaven Nursing and Rehabilitation for their compassion, friendship, and skilled assistance. As well as Brighton Bridge Hospice for making Elouise's final days comfortable and peaceful.

 

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Randy Monroe will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and continue on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
