Jean Miller

December 3, 1940 — March 20, 2025

Elsie Jean Miller, 84, passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at her home in Lake Charles, LA. She was born on December 3, 1940 in Roanoke, LA to Armand Lavergne and Ella Courville Lavergne.

Jean worked for Resthaven Nursing Home before choosing to be a private caregiver to the elderly. She was known for the exceptional care and kindness she showed to her patients and their families. Jean was kind, considerate, and always putting others' needs above herself. She spent her free time with her family and friends and would love to offer you a cup of coffee and chat about the good old days.

She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, watching them grow up. It was so evident how proud of them she was and how much joy they brought her. The most important thing to Jean was her faith. She spent countless hours praying and growing closer to the Lord. She will be missed very much and never forgotten.

Those left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Heather Nicole Potts (Buffy), and David Joseph Potts; her great grandchildren, Gracie-Ray Benoit, and Connor Joseph Potts; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Joseph K. Miller; her daughters, Jeanette Potts, and Jennifer Marie Veronie; her brother, Joseph Floyd Lavergne (Lurline); her sisters, Rena Begnaud, Dora Mae Lavergne, Eva Guillory, Zora Ewing, and Mary Lois Tabor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Father Joshua Page will serve as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Doucet Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel from 10:00 AM on Wednesday until departing for the church, with a rosary being recited at 12:00 Noon.

Pallbearers are Carl Granger, her nephew, A.J. Ewing, her grandson, David Potts, Kenith Raimer, Quinton Chaumont, and her godchild, Mary Lou Begnaud.

We would like to express our eternal gratitude to Brighton Bridge Hospice, her niece, Ann Granger, and her granddaughter-in-law, Buffy Potts for taking such good care of her through the years.
