Emilian “OK” Bumgarden, 89, passed away on August 27, 2020 in a local hospital. OK Bumgarden lived in Sulphur approximately 75 years.
OK is survived by his son, David Wayne Bumgarden and wife, Dena of Sulphur; son in law, Garland Reed, Sr. of Sulphur; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Clara Pringle, Amelia “TT” Ancelet, and Maggie Deshotel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Agnes Bumgarden; and two daughters, Carol Ann Reed and Doris Elaine Bumgarden.
OK was known to be one of the best grater men in Ward 4 and was often requested by individuals to do independent work. After 30 years of driving a grater, he retired from Ward 4 Calcasieu Parish Maintenance. After retirement, he and his wife spent lots of time camping and fishing. OK was an avid gardener with a yard full of fruit and berry trees. He would plant all kinds of vegetables and help Stella clean, cook, and can everything. He also loved to cook all kinds of meat on the pit. There was always something cooking at the Bumgarden’s house. He was a good provider and a great helpmate. I’m sure he is happy to be by Stella’s side once again.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 1:30 PM at Roselawn Cemetery in Sulphur officiated by Pastor Marcus Wade under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home.
